Background of the Study
Work process automation refers to the use of technology to automate tasks and processes that were traditionally performed manually. In the context of Jumia Nigeria, an e-commerce giant, work process automation is a critical strategy for improving operational efficiency, enhancing customer experience, and reducing operational costs (Nwosu & Adekoya, 2023). As a leading e-commerce platform in Nigeria, Jumia relies heavily on automated systems to streamline its order processing, inventory management, payment systems, and customer service operations. This automation allows Jumia to handle high volumes of transactions efficiently, reduce human error, and ensure timely delivery of products.
In Plateau State, Jumia faces unique challenges such as logistics constraints, limited access to technology infrastructure in certain areas, and an increasing demand for faster service delivery. Automation of work processes, including warehouse management and order fulfillment, is essential in ensuring Jumia can meet customer expectations and maintain competitive pricing. Implementing automation in work processes, such as the use of automated chatbots, artificial intelligence for personalized marketing, and robotic systems in warehousing, enhances efficiency and reduces operational costs (Adeyemi & Akinwumi, 2024). However, the level of automation and its effect on operational efficiency needs to be evaluated to determine whether these processes meet the intended goals.
This study aims to assess the role of work process automation in improving operational efficiency in Jumia Nigeria, specifically focusing on the Plateau State operations.
Statement of the Problem
Despite the increasing reliance on work process automation at Jumia Nigeria, challenges persist regarding the integration of automation with existing workflows, the scalability of automated systems, and the capacity of staff to adapt to new technologies. The impact of work process automation on operational efficiency in Jumia Nigeria, particularly in Plateau State, remains under-researched. This study will examine the extent to which work process automation has contributed to efficiency gains, cost savings, and customer satisfaction in Jumia's operations.
Objectives of the Study
1. To assess the implementation of work process automation in Jumia Nigeria's operations in Plateau State.
2. To evaluate the impact of work process automation on operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
3. To identify challenges faced by Jumia Nigeria in automating work processes.
Research Questions
1. What work process automation systems are implemented by Jumia Nigeria in Plateau State?
2. How effective is work process automation in improving operational efficiency at Jumia Nigeria?
3. What challenges does Jumia Nigeria face in automating work processes in Plateau State?
Research Hypotheses
1. There is no significant impact of work process automation on the operational efficiency of Jumia Nigeria in Plateau State.
2. Work process automation significantly improves operational efficiency and reduces operational costs at Jumia Nigeria.
3. Challenges in implementing work process automation hinder the achievement of desired efficiency gains at Jumia Nigeria.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on the impact of work process automation on operational efficiency in Jumia Nigeria’s Plateau State operations. Data will be collected from staff involved in automation processes, including warehouse managers, IT staff, and customer service representatives. Limitations include the accessibility of detailed internal data and the potential resistance to providing insights on automation challenges.
